Those Darn Gnomes/Potion

July 3, 2020

The new Those Darn Gnomes/Potion split is out on cassette and digital today.

TDG’s side is four tracks of blasting noisecore similar in style to last year’s All Tiny Breasts Crushed Beneath the Shadow. I did vocals on tracks 1-3 while Russell took care of the final song, “A Plague on ___.”

Potion’s side is Hunter’s most brutal material I’ve ever heard him do under this name, closer in sound to his work with the excellent Trichomoniasis than anything he’s released as Potion before. Hunter’s always existed at the vanguard of another plane of grind, but here members of Car Made of Glass help turn Potion’s usual sound into something like Defeated Sanity in an actual blender.

Any money made from sales of this split will be divided between over 70 community bail funds, mutual aid funds and racial justice organizers. You can read more about that here.

Thought:

“Who is she coming, that the roses bend
Their shameless heads to do her passing honour?
Who is she coming with a light upon her
Not born of suns that with the day’s end end?
Say is it Love who hath chosen the nobler part?
Say is it Love, that was divinity,
Who hath left his godhead that his home might be
The shameless rose of her unclouded heart?
If this be Love, where hath he won such grace?
If this be Love, how is the evil wrought,
That all men write against his darkened name?
If this be Love, if this …
O mind give place!
What holy mystery e’er was noosed in thought?
Own that thou scan’st her not, nor count it shame!”
